Origins

Born and raised in Ladbroke Grove, London, Watusi87 grew up in a household deeply rooted in Afro-Caribbean culture, which inspires the infusion of jazz, reggae, soul, R&B in his brand of Hip Hop. A gifted lyricist from an early age, he started writing from the days of house and garage and has since used percussion and melody to enhance his unique style.

Though Watusi87 has been active for over a decade, with videos on YouTube dating as far back, he brought his revolutionary spirit and astral energy to full effect in ‘Moments of Truth LP’ in 2019 - his first full release. He followed up soon after with his 2020 release of Flava, his most highly acclaimed album to date. After a brief pause during COVID, 2024 has brought his freshest content yet, with Love Equals Opportunity (2024).

LWatusi is working on some intriguing new projects including Philosophy Podium, an upcoming project with DJ Maintain and the Soul to Speak collective as well as working on an upcoming release with producer Solomon Soul and female artist Poetica.

RU1 FAM
2012 marked the birth of RU1 FAM, a hip hop collective formed by Watusi87 and MCs / producers from around the UK. Dubbed “the generals of oneness”, they have collaborated with Logic and released their highly anticipated Otito album in autumn 2018.

Afrikan Revolution
Through recording and performing with award winning super band ‘Afrikan Revolution’, Watusi87 has developed his connection to live music sets, setting him apart from other Hip Hop artists. He frequently brings live music to his stage performances and recorded tracks.

NOK Cultural Ensemble
A collaborative project with some of the leading musicians in the London Jazz Scene, Watusi87 contributes to the percussive symphony with his Djembe skills. The project is the result of compositions, extended group improvisations where collaborators would reason about history and culture whilst experimenting with frequency and time.
